First IP Camera. I picked a re-ferb to save quite a bit of money. I shopped around and this seemed to be the best bang for my techie buck. Since I was not planning on using multiple units, I bought a single POE injector for it. With only setting up one (8comp) office network under my belt, this was not a difficult unit to understand. After changing any settings, the book says it can take up to 20min to fully boot up after re-setting the IP. I think it took about 10min. A bit odd since tech is supposed to be immediate. but hey, ya only need to set it up once. The other settings like alarm recording save/work instantly.

I linked it directly to the network switch to record directly to my Iosafe NAS. All I needed to do was re-assign the IP address that was within my network range, and it on the auto detected on the iosafe security cam app. Iosafe even had some kind of pre-config setup that I was able to specify the camera on the network. I did not pay the extra money for my internet service to give me a static IP addy(required for external viewing to cell phone), so I don't think the Iosafe mobile app will ever be able to connect to the unit. There is an appeal into getting an alarm notification at 2am and being able to yell at a perp through the camera...maybe another day.

Image quality is awesome. I (bad me) got so giddy over the megapixel rate that I didn't check up on the space needed to keep this bad boy recoding. Without sound, I ended up guestimating(with the help of the software it comes with) 50gigs a month was what the reg 9-5 office would need for recording on the 2nd best quality, based on motion detection recording. I would guess its about 30% more memory needed for the HD setting. The frame rates are awesome, I can easily see full arm movements without jittery image jumping on a step down from full quality.

install - the cam was installed on a 10ft ceiling to cover the front desk window. The kit came with a sticker the size of the camera base showing where to pre-drill the holes perfectly. It saved me a good 20min of doing it solo. Once you take the cover bubble off to install the unit, it has an easy access yellow video connection to connect into a monitor during the install so you can scooch the cam around until you hit the money spot of coverage you were looking for before screwing the unit in. There is a hidden focus button that will auto focus in 20secs. The manual zoom feature really makes this unit universal. If you wanted to keep high-def tabs on a 4ftx4ft window. I used no zoom on my situation to capture the most of my hallway/front window.

low light- I have to leave a light on to see if anybody comes in/out once it gets dark to reasonable identify somebody. After paroozing the net, it looks like the choice of cameras is between a motorized moving cam or IR lights for night shots. this chamera had neither. All the comparable cameras with one or both features was nearly 4-5x the cost of this.....not worth it to me since im not protecting big assets.

The unit did get really warm after being on for 30min during the final install steps. Makes me wonder if that's a reason for the referb repair. I'm 2 weeks in now and it still works great. My only gripe is after all my research, its very hard to think about what space was needed (esp if I used multiple units) I would buy more of these if I had a need for them.
